Acer Aspire 5536 Review

How do you feel about the keyboard? is ti comfortable?
I’m just about buying one of these; thanks for your post, very useful.

Bought it. Came with Limpus Linux installed, never started, so I installed Ubuntu. Nice machine. Ubuntu runs OK, and recognized all the devices. Unfortunately I need XP for working, but I cannot find the SATA drivers for Win XP (32 bits), so I lost the AHCI capability. Pity

I just bought this laptop and set the programable button up but recently i uninstalled the program the button open do u know how to change it?

Hi, would any regular USB keyboard be ok to use? is it safe to just plug the USB keyboard (thinking it would work as the external keyboard) coz i have a spare keyboard from my desktop. Please advise, many thanks!

Cahya: Yes it is… you can use any regular USB keyboard…

change sata mode from ahci to IDE mode (via BIOS)… REALLY WORKS!!!, thanks a lot cahya, finally can install xp in my as5536

disculpa tengo un plroblema e puesto windows version desatendida pero cuando pongo el disco siempre de aparece pantalla azul… si sabes como puedo resolver esto ya que ahora estoy en ubuntu y no puedo ponerle ningun windows… porfavor… gracias

i just formated my acer aspire 5536 but am having trouble with the bluetooth. i got a driver from the net but it still does not detect plz hlp soheb20092@gmail.com

Cahya: Hi Soheb, please check a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, it contains information about WiFi, bluetooth, etc… if there is no bluetooh listed, then your aspire 5536 model have no bluetooth hardware

@Cahya: Thanks for the AHCI to IDE tip. Really helped a lot. It was really frustrating to find the blue screen of death during XP Install

i got a 5536g wid lenux..it has mentioned that it has a blue ray disc…whether it actually has ?

Cahya: If it has blu-ray logo on the front of the drive then your laptop capable of reading blu-ray discs

I am hoping that someone ill be able to help. I was very kindly bought a Acer ASPIRE 5536. However the keyboard seems to hate me. I am afraid I am useless with Tech stuff so will be speaking in lamens terms…and it would be wonderful if anyone replies..they could do the same haha.

The keyboard misses keys out ..becomes very slow after the first line of an mail..and basically becomes impossible to use. I have been writing emails in wod docs (keyboard works fine in word ) and attaching to the email.

I am sure it is a total case of PEBCAK ..but I can’t see why…please help.

I’m not very gifted when it comes to using computers, but I recently bought an Acer 5536. When I was purchasing it, I noticed that there was a Blu-Ray sticker on the front, but there was no mention of a Blu-Ray drive in the specifications abd there is no Blu-Ray symbol on the drive. I mentioned this to the saleswoman and she was unsure about it but she said that it must be a Blu-Ray drive.
Basically, I tried a couple of blu-ray discs and it didn’t work and now I’ve read online that a blu-ray drive is optional for this computer. How would I go about getting it, or is there something I’m not getting? I would appreciate any help.

i have the same promblem with the blue ray. ti’s got the sticker but wont play the disc…. please help???

I have the same problem, blu-ray sticker on the front of the laptop but not on the drive. Annoying. Decent laptop otherwise except low volume and battery but cant be perfect.

My new laptop worked fine for a few days but now the keyboard and touchpad will not work. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Needed a new laptop as my HP laptop was so old and died, so only a few days ago I purchased this Aspire 5536 for the HDMI output so I could download movies and play through my Samsung PS42B451 (Plasma TV) which is hooked up to my Samsung HT-Z310 Home Cinema System . Its brilliant and the ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics card that is standard (but basic one) does the job well but I am thinking of doing an upgrade so I am looking online but then I need a blu-ray drive which mine does not show on its sticker but the one on show in PC World did have the blu-ray logo sticker and I mentioned this and the salesman said no it hasn’t got blu-ray so I said how much extra? and he said a few hundred quid which I think is unfair.
He also mentioned that I will be able to get a free upgrade kit for Windows 7 when its released in October and I thought thats good so yesterday I registered for the free upgrade kit but the catch is you have to pay £12.78 for shipping charges. Cheers!!!

For protection I am using Norton 360 and I must say its working very very well compared to how Norton once was.

It clearly has an astrix next to blueray and at top says
“specifications vary depending on model”

The 5537 (I think thats the model) has the blueray and 4GB mem as standard.

I just cant see your all moaning, after reading what you wanted to read o nthe sticker and missed the very long sentence explaining it.

i was struggling with windows 98 boot disk i was able to boot to dos mode without a problem but after that i cant access dvd drive it says dvd drive not found. so after making a dvd boot able with ghost image on dvd i cant access dvd to reformat the laptop back with ghost image on dvd how can i access dvd drive in ods mode with windows 98 bootable disk to dos promt

I’ve had my 5536 for about 2 months now. The scroll and pinch etc functions on my touchpad have suddenly stopped working. What can i do to get it working again? This seems to be an issue with this otherwise brilliant laptop. But i cannot find a clear way to fix it.

Can anyone help with this one???

Hi I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5536 laptop & it was sold to me as having Bluetooth – however I can’t get the bluetooth working & can’t see any white sticker at the bottom of the laptop with a bluetooth symbol on it.

Any ideas??

I have an Acer Aspire 5536, and I like everything about it but… mine only has an RW/DVD drive. It won’t burn CD-R’s. Only re-writable CD’s or DVD’s. It won’t even READ a CD-R. Only DVD’s or CD-RW’s. It’s a great laptop, just be warned on that issue.

I did find out that the one i bought in london GiGABYTE store in totenham court road is totaly different from the ones acer aspire 5536

even on the acer web … you cant get this machine.
I bought it 1 week ago for 471 british pounds.

Qualyti of sound quality of the image is amazing. Actualy it did come with wista home premium. Bet we all hate THat. So i did updated to windows 7. for some time. Maby back to XP in few days.

Hey Tadas..i bought the same computer as you… for 500 british pounds
yee it’s fine…but this computer is not for games at all…and the keyboard have problems with 3 button pressing at once….so you can forget to play some sport games,like nhl or fifa…
and trish…yes it have the bluethooth key,but there is no bluethoot in this computer…so it’s just a key….you can press it just for fun ;D
the model 5536g have the bluethoot inside..and bigger video card..actually i’m disappointed that i havent bought exactly that laptop..
