Acer Aspire 4736z Review and Specifications

Just bought this model in Vietnam for less than $600- it also comes with fingerprint reader. As it came with Linpus Linux the guys in the shop put on Windows XP Pro for me- I did not understand your comment about slipstreaming??? Will they have done that?? Also- the back up button on the laptop does not work- and I see no software for this either!! Help. Otherwise everything else seems to work- though am wondering if this machine was made for Vista! Ideally it would be nice to get hold of a restore disk for the laptop but this was not provided- just a driver disk for Vista and XP. Anyway- its a great buy for what you get for your money- even if the keyboard is a bit strange! Any help appreciated.

Joemar- if you go to the Synaptics driver in the control panel and look at that- it does in fact show you exactly how it works and how to enable or disable gestures. There are even little vids to explain how it all works.

As regards the Backup Manager button on the laptop- just wanted the button to work as is rather than using other backup systems- but obviously I dont have the system files which support it. I hate having a laptop where only some of the buttons work and not others because of the OS. Have tried to locate BAckUp Manager software on Acer site but nothing!! Maybe its just for Vista??? Anybody know more than that?? Thanks

hi Cahya i have noticed the Blueray logo on Acer 4736Z-422G32Mn does it mean it can play or burn disc in Blueray format? tnx!

If you look carefully at the label you will see a tiny asterisk near to Blue Ray logo- and then look down to see that this means “dependent on model”. Certainly the 4736z does not have Blue Ray! I guess this is a bit naughty on Acers part- clearly it misleads people into thinking they have BlueRay.

Hi, I just bought an Acer Aspire 4736z from Malaysia. Have installed vista Ultimate as OS. but i happen to find out that the whenever I Press the Bluetooth button it says “No Bluetooth Device Found”. I have checked many blogs and sites an all says that this model has inbuild bluetooth…what might be the problem?

There is no information on back panel with regard to any of Wireless or bluetooth.

I had somewhat the same problem with this computer as I installed VISTA HOME BASIC as OS with the Webcam. I got the message “No Webcam device Found”, but that was solved when I switched the system to Vista Ultimate.

The model I bought has Bluetooth and it worked fine with the Windows XP drivers. There is also a sticker on the bottom of the laptop saying it has a Bluetooth transmitter.

I’m planning to buy this model (ACER 4736z) this month. I just want to know if there are any disadvantages on the specs? Is the battery life long? how about the durability? what are the parts that are upgradable? =)

It’s a good buy BrainDrain- good value for money! I have had mine over a month now and no real problems with it other than the HD doing a diskcheck most times I start it up (even though it was correctly shut down)! Processor speed seems to be fine- even for WMM editing. Battery life also quite good- certainly better then the last Acer I had. I am getting nearly 3 hours at the moment but thats without WiFi. Seems pretty durable and well designed. Colour is really striking but it does attarct finger prints! RAM can be upgraded to 4Gb. My HDD is already at 320Gb so doubt if I will ever need to upgrade that! I think what makes it stand out as such good value is the build quality appearance, DDR3 RAM, fingerprint sensor (on a machine this price is quite unusual) and the huge HDD.

Power management button works fine- at least it switches on and off- not too sure what it does! One touch backup button does not work still and have found no solution. Quite frustrating really. Anybody out there know how to solve this one? I am running XP Pro- have installed all the Acer drivers from the Acer DVD supplied.

I just downgraded it to Win XP Pro (32Bit). I can’t get the Backup button to work either. Try to find its driver.

If anyone know how to get it the work please inform the community. Also, I have a problem with Finger print, it doesnt work. These the only two things I have troubles with but I can live without those 2 features.

they say that if you bought aspire 4736z w/ operating system the backup button and the power management works…T_T but if not they say its just for display…T_T damn!

I am running XP on 4736z T4200 and the backup button does not work. PowerSmart button works OK but it is not clear what it does and there is no control panel associated with it! Have been unable to find any information about this problem anywhere!!!

OK I managed to install the power smart button on win7 after installing from the software compartible level. However the one touch backup button still not lighted. BTW, the acer arcade Deluxe is also not part of this Freedos package…I saw Pak Cahya did posted the software here but pretty big file & abit old…(2008?)

Wondering any newer version & also whether I only download the latest update or need to download the full installer 1st b4 installing the latest update?

I just bought 4736 aspire acer, however the in built mic has some problem.
1. Sound gets captured but reproduction of sound is very poor, looks like somespace movies produce with sound effects which u can’t make any thing out of this. The drivers used for sound is audio_reltek v 5.10.0.5802
does any one has any suggessions how to correct it.
OR it is ACER’s man. defect observed with all laptops

I bought this laptop a month ago and everything is GREAT speed is good graphics look nice sound is crisp and clear (unlike my VAIO) battery life is also very good i dont think anyone can complain about hard drive space. . only part i don’t like is the video card YES it is HD but it cannot run games like Left 4 Dead and COD4 or Prototype .. .. does anyone know if i can change the video card to suit the games mentioned preferably cheap video cards

Cahya: Before you change the video card, try to set your power management option to “High Performance” or something sounds like that… you will decrease the battery life but you will experience better performance on games…

im using this acer 4736z for almost a week now, and so far im enjoying it, the design is just so nice and the keyboard is so easy to use, ive installed windows 7 RC version, and everything is nice sofar, i love it, they say that ACER is a cheap brand but i dont care as long as the specs work out and it can deliver…

hello! i just bought my acer 4736z 2days ago and i tried to install my licensed windows xp. everytime the set up finished installing it will restart and it will show the message “disk error please insert bootable disk”

ive tried several OS and it installs the contents of the cd and after it restarts it will show the same message…

i guess u need to activate the bluetooth device before it can be used. try to click on the icon and follow the instruction as it appears.

but from all the comments, it appears to me that the system does not goes well with XP and the sound also needs improvement.

there is no icon for the bluetooth, and it is not reported anywhere in the device manager, but when you press the button on the notebook for Bluetooth, the Bluetooth symbol is displayed with the red X through

hi, i’ve had this model for a while now and i’ve currently installed windows 7 build 7264. i’m seeing some problems like when i hit the shortcut keys on the right, my screen doesn’t display anymore icons or notifications (not the ones on the taskbar). i’m having some problems with the wifi… it seems to be kind of picky. and, windows 7 build 7264 isn’t compatible with the videocard.
any solutions?

me too. once i press the bluetooth icon there’s a red X.. then i download the bluetooth driver on accer site, when im installing it, it say pls. connect the driver..i thought this model have built-in bluetooth inside?

i just both my aspire but with the lower version with out the finger print but with the os of windows vista home basic. I’am just new at this but in what i have experience with my acer. If you ar into having longer battery life you could also adjust the power plan of your battery to power saver. For what I have experienced you can use it for browsing but has a low performance but thats the setup i usually use. The battery life stays longer more than 3hours if you are just typing and chatting or something. As to games i prefer playing with the laptop pluged in. that only me…

hi to all. I’m also an owner of an acer 4736 just like you (the core2duo version). really loved it. however, I can’t seem to let the fingerprint sensor working. I already installed the correct drivers. It even is recognized in the device manager but there is no application that I can run to activate the sensor.

Is there a separate software that I need to install? or did I miss something in the driver installation process? Any help is appreciated.

I bought this computer some 2 months back in canada and already I am having problem with the screen display. Suddenly the whole screen shows hazy unclear pixel type display even though the computer is not freezing. I am not sure if the problem is in the video card or the screen display. My power setting in “balanced’ and I donot use it for any games.

Any help is welcome. If it is a problem with the computer what is the best thing to be done.

do your sound adjust control work? (Fn + up/down arrow key). If not then you may have a problem with your Fn key. If it works you may have a problem with your display drivers. Check it out at the Device manager.

i just boad aspire 4736Z but the bluetooth cannot use. i check at bluetooth device hardware it nathing. i think the bluetooth hardware not install. anyone can help me?

Cahya: Hi Azlee, please check a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, it contains information about WiFi, bluetooth, etc… if there is no bluetooh listed, then your aspire 4736 have no bluetooth hardware

does anyone know where to get a replacement keyboard?

I am planing to buy 4736 acer aspire model..Here in delhi dealers have two models with processor(t6400 3GB RAM–DDR3) and second one is (T6500 with 3GB RAM DDR2) All others are same. They are giving with no OS…
Can you suggest which one I should buy..the speed of second processor is fast..
One most important thing.. Is there any problem in installing the Vista HP in this machine..If there pls let me know.

it’s just the 100MHz difference in the processor clock speed.
but DDR3 ram are much better than DDR2…
so buy t6400 3GB RAM–DDR3
(remember… you can’t upgrade your DDR2 to DDR3… see this pic)

Vista HP? this is ok as long this is from original Vista installer DVD (licensed for HP)
but if this Vista is a backup from a HP laptop.. you can’t use it on Acer laptop….

Im using vista and its working fine,
By the way guys some models of 4736 has no OS installed just LINUX, thought that if I install a OEM of ACER vista it would already be activated, turned it is not. The ones having no OS pre installed has a bios with no SLIC table which is needed for an OEM, the fact is when you flash the bios it leaves the portion of the slic, so if your existing biosdoes not have the SLIC 2.0, then it does not flash it, I got a method to flash the bios with the slic 2.0, and its an original bios, just flashing the whole bios and not just the parts where it leaves the SLIC table 2.0 for vista activation, the problem is just the serial number, uid, or collective may be called as the DMI of the system would be arase, but it could also be rebuild simply by entering the numbers, and after having the slic youl’ll have a system which when installed with an OEM acer vista (which you could also create if you have the digital certificate of acer and just changing the PID or key to whatever vesion yo want Ulti, Home Basic), you’ll have a system with original vista, no upgrade restrictions, no genuine shit, just like having a acer with oem vista, at a fraction of a cost ( you see having a vista OS in a system already increses the aount you pay for it) so having paid only for the hardware and then having an oem visa woul really make your day.

And about the system its really fast, the problem is the fan, putting it on yo lap also blocks the fan intake, i think there were no other vent for the air intake so dont justput in on your bed, better of buying those with cooler, or just have something flat under it. The finger print sensor, just click the program then it should let you set it up, you could use it to sign up, just be sure that it really does have a finger print sensor as some systems dont, you could locate it in between the pads buttons, really cool, you could launch different programs, as you could configure every one of you finger that when you slide it it would launch the type of program you associated it with, and it would also let you enter you emaill and you pass word automatically with the slide of yo finger ehehe, really cheap for a system with this specs.

Jah try to configure the router, just bradcast with N, disable the b/g or something, some say there are compatability issues with certain card and routers, just try to diagnose the prob first, maybe the router settings, all you have to do is be able to connest you acer with a N network try to find diff kinds of router, atleat one of them should be able to connect with it, first find whre the problem lies, your router or your lappy,

What should i do to detect the fingerprint device?

Do you have the CD that came with your Lappy? Something Called Acer Bio protection or something, then after installing you could alraedy find it in one of your Programs,in the cd auto start program youll find two cat, first one are for xp and 2nd is for vista, I’ll try to find the link, look for something like acer bio protection,

wha model do you have? some 4736 dont have the finger print sensor, like here the picture showing the touchpad, if you unit looks like this then tough luck you dont have the sensor, its should be located inbetween , in the middle of the buttons, there should be a rectangular hole and some plate where you could swipe your fingers, so the fact htat your systemes says no device found probably is that you dat have the device, wrong driver, or its broken , ehehe, just uninstall the program if yo dant have the sensor as it wont have any use for you anyways

if you cant click it just copy paste the address, then selce notebook aspire an then 4736, changr the os to whatever os you are using, look for authentec finger print driver, download and install, if you have your cd i believe it included as it would save you time, though you coulddownload this for a newer version, gud luck

I would just like to clarify, that link only provides the Driver right? I can’t seem to find the application that would launch the Acer Bio Protection. I’ve already installed correctly the necessary drivers. As a matter of fact, the Device Manager doesn’t display any errors meaning the sensor is installed and detected by the system properly. It’s only the application that I need and I don’t know where to get.

When you install this it also install the application, so it includes not only the drivers but the application for it, you should see it in your programs menu, I mean after installing it it should be higlighted as it is, or will be the most recent program you’ll be installing. I believe it a 50 mb or more file, install it it should be working fine. Find something like authentec or something, or Acer Bio Protection, should be there. So in the device manager you could see the name of the finger print sensor device? nyway just install the program, what model do ou have anyways? its not the one pictured above as you could see tha model don’t have any finger print sensor at all.

it’s the 4736 model. there is an authentec fingerprint sensor between the left/right touchpad button. I scanned the CD and installed “FingerPrinter Authentec v6.1.22″ under XP Software. However, I encountered an error and it says exactly like this
“Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run, Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action etBIOSVersion script error – 2147221020, : Line 1, Column 1, ”
I googled this error and found no link to it.

I am having confusion, whether to buy acer aspire 4736 or Lenovo g450 294955??? both have same processor (C2D T6600) and same ram (3GB DDR3)

So are there any diffrence? if there are no other differecnes then it all comes to aethetic preference, though there is a 4736 laptop with p serires c2d processor the only prob is it runs with DDR2 memory, though the processor is better than t66, with 3m l2 cache and 1k FSB speed, nyway try to research on the lenovo first, I know moost of their system has facial recognition for the cam which this acer don’t have (correct me if im wrong) but it does have the finger print sensor which is nice to have, So whats the Vidcard? some sys have integrated some have dedicated, nyway if both systems are almost the same, only yuo could decide for the form factor

haven’t tried it but generally this lappy isn’t designed for games as this has an integrated video card. If ever you can play it, you will jsut be disappointed as graphics would be dull.

Hi, I’m trying to choose between two models with the same price: AS4736Z-4037 and AS4736Z-4692. Both come with the same T4200 processor and 3GB RAM and all the rest is the same too. The only two differences in spec that I found are:
1) the first one has DDR2, the second DDR3
2) about the “Average Run Time” for the battery the 1st spec says “Up to 4.6 Hours”, the 2nd says “Up to 3 hours”.
Such a big difference in the battery life seems very strange: both have 6 cell battery, so I don’t know if this is believable. Of course DDR3 is better, but 1.5x battery life would outweigh this for me if this is true.

any updates of what needs to look out for regarding this acer 4736z model? any problems encountered? how about temperature issue, some say that acer laptops are notorious about being too hot. my average temperature using speedfan – HD0-47c Temp1-43c Core0-38c Core1-38c and i use it 15 hours a day. been using this model for 2 months now and everything seems to work out fine with no any issues so far. hope you guys can share your experiences here.

Aspire 4736ZG build-in mic. sucks. whenever I try a voice chat, the other end complains about miserable sound quality. I have already tried different drivers. However, none really helps. Anyone has the same problem on Build-in mic?

No prob with the built in mic, works like a charm, it is compatible, thoug the new bios still has slic 2.0 as of now, so any oem for windows 7 has to be out as of yet, though hopefully the new slic 2.1 will be incorporated for the next bioses, bottomline, it is compatible.

I acquired a new Acer 4736Z laptop but the OS is linpus linux. I tried to install windows vista OS by booting on the DVD drive but during installation when i have to choose to which drive should i install the Vista OS it can not install on the drives available which are already partitioned. There is a option on formatting the drives before installing but when i choose to format drive C or drive D it prompts that the drive can not be formatted. BIOS already in “IDE Mode” can you help me on this?

hi every one, i noticed that most of u guys complain about the backup button and the power managment, the thing is Acer made the drivers for such keys available in certain OS like vista home premium, in XP u wont find the drivers available.. to check these drivers and the compatible OS plz check this site:

Choose advance, delete the partition, every one of them, then create a new one for ur vista, it depends if want you hard drive to have 2 partiotion or just a single one, if one, jst press enter on the hard drive after deleting the partion, it shoud work from there

Hi! just wanna ask if anybody here have problems in the time lag after shutting down your acer aspire 4736z? i just bought mine two weeks ago and unfortunately, I am already experiencing this kind of problem. The first time it happened, it took around 10 minutes to shut down. Now, it wont even shut down unless I press the turn on button for a long time. Been browsing the net and i discovered that long shut down time is not uncommon to acer laptops. What do you think should I do? I live far from the store where i bought my laptop from. it wont, but the rpoblem is if you have power failure, meaning your laptop would shut iself without the back up battery, one way to save the battery life is not letting your battery drain less than 10 percent, though bat life reduces with repetitive draining and charging, no problem with removing the bat, though having it whiled plugged wont have dfference in prolonging its life, it wont ruin yor acer unlerr a power outage occurs, so don;t bother removing it. Batteries are meant to be replaced, no matter how you take care of it, you should focus on caring more on the parts of your laptop that are harder to replace

Any developments on One Touch back up button and Power management button- the first one does nothing and the second remains lit all the time- seems to do nothing! I have not read anything helpful about these issues since my original post! Running XP SP3- otherwise the laptop is great!

it is compatible, though the computer’s bios actually have slic 2.0, ( which means it would run an oem acer vista, xp without the need of activating it) the point is, the system currently ships with vista at most, what were waiting is the next bioses to incorporate a slic 2.1 table, nyway the laptop works fine with win 7,

i’ve been using my 4736z for 4 months now and still flawless. i’m really contented with the specs since i only use it for browsing and no more games. it’s powered up 15 hours a day and i’ve been very thankful that it ain’t lemon.

i just bought a new acer 4736 & preinstalled with XP sp2.. but whenever i play music.. it got stacking at some point of the song.. huhu!! maybe graphic problem or something.. it also hard to connect to the internet through wireless router.. sometime can connect and sometimes can’t connect to the internet eventhough it already connected to the router and the internet connection are ok..

First, this laptop is not sited foor gaming,
and is this your first laptop?
Nyway you could only play games what the specs allows you to. Limitations are limitations, stretching the limitations means spending more dough on it, nyway this laptop is good, downside is the graphics processor, though it is well rounded, but not for 3d applis, nyway try putting your vid card to hig performance maybe it should do the trick.

i want to make my acer 4736z dual OS (windows xp and windows 7). currently, i’m using windows xp and ready to install windows7 ultimate x86 build 7600. i’ve prepared all the drivers and now i’m ready BUT i still need one concern and this will be critical to install win7. before when i installed winxp i changed the the bios to ide, how about if i install win7? do i need to change it too (remember i’m using the other partition on my hdd)? what will happen if i change it, will my xp still readable? or can i install win7 without changing the bios settings from ide mode?

You can install Windows 7 without change sata mode in BIOS…
if you change it, XP won’t able to start….
btw, when you install it on the other partition it will automatically detect XP and dual boot menu automatically created…

the problem is just the serial number, uid, or collective may be called as the DMI of the system would be arase, but it could also be rebuild simply by entering the numbers,

I am having acer 4736 with windows xp, 1 month old. I am facing an unusual problem with the system clock, it is running slow (1minute on laptop = actual 1 minute 52 seconds) and whole system gets slow with it. I am not able to figure it whether it’s a hardware problem or some software. Please put your suggestions

on a computer, there is a CMOS clock that controls Windows clock…
try to go to BIOS.. then re-adjust time, then press F10 to save and exit…

Cahya, Thanks for the reply. I do run 2-3 threads of matlab. I don’t think its CMOS problem bcoz when I start, it always shows correct time, later sometimes it slows down.

I have bought Acer Laptop 4736 – S. No. lxpg40c0279292d4f21601 (on 14th Oct, 2009 from Micro Sun, super bazaar, Moradabad). Within a week, it was not booting. After 2 hour, it started normally.
I was embarrassed when I had to give important presentation. It was not starting. Any how I managed and after few hours it started normally. I called up (3rd November) customer care and they asked to visit service centre. At service centre (Ghaziabad), they said that motherboard had some problem. Service centre collected my laptop. I kept following up with service centre for next 22 days. At last they received motherboard from Bangalore and replaced (25th November, 2009) the same. Next day it was not showing any sign of life. It was completely silent. Again I had contacted to service centre, they expressed same problem. I again asked customer care. This time reply was same… ‘Our service centre would take care’. I asked to replace this laptop (Acer Laptop 4736) as it had manufacturing defect. But customer care and service centre both denied and told that they are helpless. They could only provide warranty.
After all this I searched email ids of Acer people on the internet. Few ids were ail_easycare@acer.co.in, mahesh_kulkarni@acer.co.in, wsmukund@acer.co.in, Sanjay_gupta@acer.co.in, shankar_b@acer.co.in). I got response that somebody would connect me. After two days, I was asked to send contact details. I shared through mail. Nobody contacted me next day. After that I marked CC to Jai Shankar, Director Sales, Acer India (sudhir_goel@acer.co.in) and Sudhir Goel, GM, Acer India (jai_shankar@acer.co.in). Now Customer care Manager Head Mr. Amrish Mahajan (Amrish_Mahajan@acer.co.in) contacted me. I simply requested to return full amount with a letter stating that ’Acer was unable to provide defect free product and service’. They offered me to replace Laptop with one month of extended warranty. I refused to this and asked my money back with apology letter or replace laptop with compensation as my brother had faced problem. He is an MBA student and it was basically purchased for his study. He missed few presentations and that was big loss. At last, Acer returned (12th Dec, 2009) the money without any Apology letter and took back laptop (Acer Laptop 4736).
This shows there lethargic and disgusting approach. Acer people don’t support their customer and when they caught with mistakes, they simply escape. You would be tortured mentally and physically. Now I hope this cheque would be realized. I would suggest – Do not buy Acer Products. I have shared the mail ids so that if anybody facing such problem can use these ids.
If some responsible Acer people read this review, kindly think upon that how would you survive with such product, service and behavior?

hi..i’m currently using 4736. Rit now, i detect several problems wit my laptop which i hope someone can help me…
1. Every time i adjust the brightness of the laptop when i turn on, for example i adjust it to the least brightness, the next time i turn it on the brightness will return back to the original brightness, in this case it is the max brightness.
2. There are possibility that my laptop will lag…i don’t know why..even the 1st day i bought this laptop, after several hour i used it, it will become lag..for example, after i watch movie for a couple of hour, suddenly the movie will play in such a slower motion…this keep bothering me, as i need to restart again the laptop for it to work properly..again, this thing will occur more if i used with my battery in…
3. As mention before by other, the power management not working and i used xp..

hi, can somebody tell me whats wrong with my laptop? Its Acer Aspire 4736Z-432G25Mn.
During the times I play a movie, song or play a game where it uses both video and music, it hangs and drags/drags every now and then. And I mean, it never misses, it occurs at least once and everything just hangs together with it. Its like it drags for 1 second more or less, along with the rest and then resumes, and then after several minutes it does it again so on. My friend a technician tried to do the ff: reformat, change the disk drive, direct x diagnostics (all tests were successful eventho theres still a problem with the drag). But the problem is still there. It’s really bothersome since I listen to music and watch video extensively and it keeps interrupting with its drags…. Please help! Thank you.

to bad for you, maybe the acer support in india suck but in some parts its okay, so basically some elecs do comme defecive, theres no 100 percent guarantee that it would not have any defects hence the warranty, too bad for you, anyway the best thing to do is atleast let it run continously the first time you bought it, some, as they think their caring for their newly acquired tech, tend to open it then shut it, so as thinking that its new, so let it run for hours, so as that any problems would be detected and taken care of, nyway some probs that are frequent are the sudden restarting, and sometimes problems with booting, most ases are due to a defective ram, ny way just thought to share as some, most of them misdiagnosed the probs as motherbard prob, nyway specwise and pricewise, it is cheap though

by the way, im using windows 7, too bad the bios which are the most recent are still in slic 2.0, meaning u cant use a oem acer windows 7 ultimate (activated due to oem slp and slic with acer certificate, though you can always flash it with a bios with 2.1 slic, nyway windows 7 is far better win vista, more resources are available to you

guys for those interested in having thier 4736 with no os to have an oem os just say so, would provide instrctions, u could run the windows vista and the windows 7 activated, fully upgradeable, no loader or such since the activataion is through oem

nyway the ones that would be erased are the product name, manufacturer, sn and uuid, which i do have the prog to rebuild it, and then you could slic it with 2.0 or 2.1, problem with 2.1 is that it wont activate vista since it got a different certificate, so depends on what you would like to use, so guys email me at angelynX2003@yahoo.com, acer aspire 4736 only hehe

@mark, i use to have the same problem i.e. fan switching on and off by itself every interval 2 mins.
though it doesnt affect the system neither does it generate any heat whatsoever, the sound can be quite irritating at times, especially in a quiet library atmosphere.

i tried flashing the bios (latest dec 09) and it somehow reduced the problem faced (although it does not totally eliminate it)

well what you could really do is place it under a cooler ehehe, still that depends on how noisy the fan is, whether rthe laptp or the cooler, well the fan spins depending on the temp of the comp, so if you put it in low setting, assuming that in the lib youll be doing only tuyping that would minimize the fan swriling, though a belking noebook cooler would be nice. Try being in a room with no air and jogging, which would you like, the fan to run or the board to fry.

Hi – I bought my Acer 4736 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where they’re on promotion at $555 USD.
I’m very pleased with the performance (fast and smooth), and, once the drivers were installed, the ease of Bluetoothing.
Run in conjunction with ‘Debut’ video recorder program, the webcam (Crystal Eye), is very very clear and crisp.
The problem, however, is that the built in microphone is extremely poor, and totally unusable on Skype or other voice applications.
The volume is also quite low (yes, I’ve unchecked the sound limiter).
Maybe the sound card has a problem?
I’ve also had the experience where the mouse pointer icon starts to skip slightly (both with wifi mouse and touchpad), and this is only cured by a reboot!
The strange part about this slowing down, is that the music you get when XP shuts down, is also scratchy and abut 25% slower than it should be!
I’ve done full deep Kaspersky virus scans, and even dumped most of my files onto my Transcend 320GB HDD, still does the same thing.
This model is metallic BLUE in colour, and is NOT the one with the fingerprint slot on the left/right bar.
Any ideas about how to cure the mic and slowing problems would be very welcome.
Apart from that, well worth $555!

so create a backup then, back up all ur essential files then format if, if ur sure that its a virus then install an antivirus then clean it, then reinstall the driver of your network may it be your wifi or lan ur using to coonect the net to, coz there are a myriad of causes of not having an internet connection, mostly its just settings, though if your sure that a virus mess up your system and guessing that you posting here meaning your not that adept in os, its would be easier to reformat the laptop, but be sure to back up your files first, and not using any usb flash disk or any external storage til you set up your antivirus, if your unsure waht media u have are infected with the virus, thats if youre to sure that its a virus. Back up file can be made, its essentially the files you need or as a user put into your laptop since it was purchased, if its a z, then it should have come with an os pre installed, so there should be a cd or dvd which would rebuild your hard disk, may it ba an image of your pre installed os or a vista or x installation cd with oem.

hello.., I just bought an Acer Aspire 4736z from Malaysia. Have installed win xp sp3. but i happen to find out that the whenever I Press the Bluetooth button it says “No Bluetooth Device Found”. I have checked many blogs and sites an all says that this model has inbuild bluetooth…what might be the problem?

The buil-in microphone doesn’t function at all. I found it out while using video call via ym with my sibling but i can’t be heard by my sibling. I just thought it was due to poor internet connection. Yet i tried to find out if the built-in mic itself has some problem. So i tried to record a sound and to my surprise, all i heard was screeching sound. Can this problem be resolved by replacing the sound card like what somebody has told in here?

Is anybody facing heat problem in 4736Z ?

to those who have problems regarding their hardware..be sure you have installed the correct drivers specifically for the Operationg System you use.
You can check it at the Device Manager panel.

2. What things can i do with my Nokia 5530 with also has a wlan.

hi, I also experienced the same thing. dvd is not working on acer aspire 4736Z after I install windows 7 and windows vista is multiboot. Then I try to remove windows 7, and the dvd back to work.

I also want to ask, is there anything that can give an answer about this. In order for the acer aspire 4736Z can multiboot windows Vista and Windows 7. Thank’s.

i don’t know how to multiboot but ithink u need to install the window 7 support for the 3rd party driver

ex;power dvd,nero,divx n etc

ACER 4736Z can have a multiboot. my Acer 4736Z has multiboot. the first one is Windows Xp professional SP3 and the another one is Windows 7 Ultimate.
First thing you need to do is format your laptop. install first the Windows xp, vista, then have it a partition.. partition it into half. the first half must be your first O.S of your choice then the second O.S will be the second half. when you’re done installing the half partition which is Windows xp or vista for example, then do it the same thing for the another O.S you want to install. It’s difficult to explain in writting here.. hahah! but i hope it could help you. But back up your files first before formatting your laptop.

Thanks for the answer. But that’s not the problem. The problem is after I use the multiboot win vista and win 7, dvd rom terdeksi not normally. So, how to dvd rom was detected again by the windows? Do I need to install driver for dvd rom? but I think the dvd rom does not need to install driver.

I am running windows xp pro in my aspire 4736z. The volume level of the audio is practically very low. I have placed the windows volume to max to no avail. Can anyone please help?

Another thing is the display settings. The display setting reverts to the 8-bit color quality when the unit is switched off. I have to adjust to the 32-bit every time i switch the unit on.

my 4736z with windows XP in ot has a problem on its bluetooth..

I have this aspire 4736z since august last year and it’s pretty nice. I used windows xp back then and i’m always making an ad hoc network so my brother’s computer (running with windows vista) can connect with me and share the internet. I recently upgraded to windows 7 ultimate where i have to download all the drivers from Acer’s website cause I lost my old disk. I can always make an ad hoc network but when my brother connects it disconnects after 15-20 seconds. Is the problem here with Windows 7 or with the drivers? Please help me. What’s the wifi driver I need to install anyway? Cause there’s like 4 wifi drivers from their site. Atheros? Ralink? etc..?

it is just blue-ray-ready which means you still need to modify or upgrade something (maybe the optical unit) in order to play blue ray discs

if you mean to increase graphics memory by upgrading the video card then it is not possible since the VC is built-in.

I have purchased an Acer Aspire 4736 in the month of September 2009 from Access to Future in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh, India). This Particular Laptop has a future of fingure print reader…. Can you enlight me about its usage and the way I can activate the same for my security reasons as I dont want anybody to access my laptop (as I have people around me who can break admin passwords).
